One of the limitations of Windows Defragmenter is that it is unable to defragment critical system files that Windows deemed “exclusive access” such as the registry or your page file. Depending on how much wear and tear you put on your PC, these files can become highly fragmented.

So you have read numerous times that one way to speed up your PC is to delete unnecessary files and free disk space. Sometimes your hard drive can become cluttered and unorganized to the point that you don’t necessarily know where to even start looking to delete things.

The more programs you install, regardless of how good you can keep them organized, can still manage to get cluttered and you have to dig through the Start menu to find an application you just used a few days ago.
So you can’t always get away from all the damage of malware or even human error. Either one of these can cause your Master Boot Record to become corrupt and not allow Windows to even boot enough to get into Safe Mode.
