Delaying Your Startup For Increased Performance
Posted in Surveys & Opinions on
So you have gotten rid of all the unnecessary programs from loading during your Windows startup, but still are experiencing a lag and have to wait to get anything productive done while Windows loads your essential programs.
You may need all ten of those programs loaded into memory, but you don’t have to have them all try to load themselves at once. Imagine it like a door with room enough for one program to fit through at a time, yet ten are trying to squeeze in at once slowing each other down.
It would be much more efficient to let the important programs through first and let you start doing what you need to do. You would never try loading ten programs at once and expect your computer to handle it well, so why allow startup to?
There is a way to easily handle this, with Startup Delayer by R2 Studios.
Startup Delayer allows you to put a timer on every startup item. So for instance, you can have your necessary drivers load first, anti-virus second, then space out the time between all the “non-critical” applications such as a Java updater.
To delay the time out between your programs just download, install and run Startup Delayer then start dragging your programs from the list to the bar delay bar underneath the list. After you have everything the way you want it, click the red triangle labeled “SD”. (I’d recommend putting it on Graphical Mode to see if the timing is right for you) Give your computer a reboot and see how much of an improvement you get and see if you can do further tweaking. (Like programs still starting up on top of each other)
After you get everything the way you want it, just put Startup Delayer into Invisible Mode and never think about it again.
Startup Delayer is compatible with Windows 98/ME/2000/XP/Vista and is available at:

Thanks for the tip about Startup Delayer, Kris!
I picked it up just now.
I had no idea there was such a program.
When my laptop is loading programs at Startup, I’ve noticed that about 12-15 programs all start at the exact same time. Now I will put a stop to that.
Great post!
A last something to stop chaos at start-up. How do you find all these useful products? I’m definitely going to give this one a try. Keep the tips coming, I look forward to more useful ideas.

Great stuff. Can’t wait to give it a go.
Lol nice
Good tip Kris. I hope it works out.
Thanks Kris for the link to this program. I knew it existed, but didn’t know what it was called or how to get it. You’ve just helped me immensely on startup. Keep up the great work.
Looks like a great program. Never heard about it before. Keep up the great work you do!!
Hi Kris – great tool but the problem is how do I know which programs at startup I can delay without causing problems. Some programs are abbreviated and I don’t know what they are.
Kris
Thanks for another great tip i will give it a go.
John
I used your ‘doorway’ metaphor to sell the program on my blog (which might feed to twitter, if I’m unsuspended).
