I mean what exactly to they do or change on my computer?
Is there a place I can go to read up on what they do?

Hi Kris – I’ve now got the download but there seems to be a problem with the ‘Faster Shutdowns’ utility – when I double click it, instead of getting the two boxes where I click ‘Yes’ and ‘OK’ all I get is a Notepad showing:
“Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
; Faster Shutdown, may cause an error at shutdown with misbehaving apps (ZoneAlarm 7 is one)
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control]
“WaitToKillServiceTimeout”=”3000″”
The other utility (Speed Up Boot) seems to work okay.

thanks for sharing this info Kris, I’ve turned off some unneeded services and this does speed up booting and shut down, besides the Windows Disk Defragmenter, is there a way to defragment the boot files and place the device drivers to the beginning of the hard disk? appearantly that is supposed to dramatically speed up booting as well.
Solid State Drives are still way too expensive right now.
just can’t get downloads with aol zipping everything. i hate that.

My computer runs all the time when it is on. I have no idea what is running but when I try to do anything on the computer, I have to wait while the computer is doing whatever it is doing. How can I find out what is running (almost all the time) and get rid of it?
